Publicity Vs. Fame

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and she said something to me about not wanting to be world famous or anything, she just wants her stories out in the world for people to find on their own. I agree with her, I write so my stories can be read, not so I can make money - I'm a good enough writer to get a job in journalism or something else non-fiction if I wanted money, but that's not what I want. I won't deny that being rich through writing would be great and I would LOVE if suddenly, millions of people around the world were reading my work. But with that kind of attention comes a certain level of fame or celebrity or whatever you want to call it, and I, frankly, am not interested in that kind of attention. The spotlight has never appealed to me - never even liked it on my birthdays. I like to be at the side, where I can observe and build my own worlds in private. People around me want me to make a fortune off of my writing, but, honestly, I'm content to plod along and make a pittance. As I said, money would be nice, but I've never liked the stuff that much anyway.
